5 Common Fail Points - Evaluation Station

I often get asked what the most common reasons for failing the Evaluation station in the NMC OSCE. Let's explore. 1 - Failure to verbalise allergy status & reaction during the "Background" part of the SBAR handover 2 - Failure to verbalise any risk factors on the bottom part medication chart where it states "Medication Risk Factors". Ensure that you clearly state that you can see or NOT see any medication risk factors - EG diabetes, pregnancy, renal impairment, etc. 3 - Failure to verbalise social history. You should include any information about the patients social history - including smoking status, living conditions, and any other information that is written in this section. 4. Failure to verbalise diagnosis for admission - ensure you clearly state the diagnosis for admission, eg short of breath due to pneumonia, etc. 5. Failure to verbalise nursing needs and interventions under the Assessment part of the SBAR handover - ensure you make summary notes from care plans and read it clearly, add any nursing need given on evaluation form. Include any referrals you have made to physiotherapists, social workers, etc. Happy studying!
